SUMMARY:Into the Underworld Exhibition 2017
DESCRIPTION:Beneath the banality of Auckland’s sprawling suburbia\, there lies an ancient subterranean world. \nInto the Underworld is an art-science collaboration between digital artist Chirag Jindal and speleologist Peter Crossley\, and follows two years of advanced 3D scanning research into the lava caves under the suburbs of Mount Albert\, Three Kings\, Mount Eden\, Mangere and One Tree Hill. \nFor three weeks only in December\, the caves will be presented in an exhibition of immersive panoramic prints\, moving images and 3D-printed models\, revealing the sublime and uncanny narrative of the city’s volcanic underground. \nThe exhibition will also feature screenings of Meet Peter\, a 2017 fresh shorts documentary by filmmaker Gemma Duncan on Peter and his life documenting over 200 caves across the city. Through artful cinematography\, the film accounts the derelict state of these forgotten sites\, but frames them within the beauty of their fossilised lava flows. \nWhen: \nSaturday 9 December 2017\, 12.00pm – Sunday 24 December 2017\, 9.00pm \n  \nExhibition open from 12pm until late (until 9pm weekdays\, until midnight from 21-23 Dec) \nCost: Free \n
